Our Show String
Welcome to the show string page! This is the place for customs not painted by TriStar; but sharing in the same eclectic collection space as the paint works i've kept for myself. I figured i'd give them a place to call their own! You'll find a blend of factory look-a-likes , custom repaints & artist resins here, currently residing at TriStar; many now enjoying a well-earned retirement from competition after a lengthy show career in the winners circle! Enjoy!
"All Eyes On Me" Painted by the awesome Tammy Harris-Ferin; this Breyer Porcelain Parade ASB has been one of my personal favorite pieces for nearly a decade. Painted in 2005; "Stephan" has earned a lifetime place in my private show string, and collection. He has earned a stack of NAN cards, and several championships in both performance, and workmanship for Tammy's attention to detail. I spent several years trying to get my hands on him; and when the opportunity arose for me to finally purchase him, I couldn't have been more thrilled!

"Tailored To A T" One of the older customs on my show string, the legendary "T-bird", is a Breyer Hackney pony; completely re-detailed, sculpted and master-worked by the legendary Tom Bainbridge. Shown as a historical
Hackney; he was produced in 1996, and still sweeps in the Vintage Custom ring. He has a handful of NAN cards and rosettes from his longtime career, and his last appearance was a Breyerfest 2008. |
"Volrath" "Volrath", is a Breyer customized Lonesome Glory from 1998; painted & detailed in acrylics and colored pencil by the wonderful artist Barbara Prestridge. Volrath has been shown over the last decade and a half, as a full--blooded Thoroughbred; displaying the unusual-yet-prevelent Sabino overo gene which has cropped up in the breed. Always one of my favorites, he is a permanent member of my show string and collection.

"Someone Else's Story" "Kenneth", as he's known at home, is a Haggis drafter resin, sculpted by Kitty Cantrell, and painted by the wonderful Sommer Prosser. He's a lovely dappled rose grey, with the most stunning pattern and coloration. I've always been a fan of Sommer's work, and was thrilled when I had the chance to buy him. Sommer had just delivered him to Deb & Randy Buckler; and I fell immediately in love -- a match made in heaven! "Kenny" went on instantly to win his first NAN card and championship in the AR drafter division, within weeks of my meeting him. He's since won NAN top ten awards, and taken home numerous championships at west coast shows. I'm still as madly fond of this model, as I was the moment I saw him. <3

"Robert Redwood" Yes, this is a custom, Although many times, i've had him dismissed accidentally from the ring, because people thought he was a factory test. This is "Robert"; named after the famous actor (Redford); and painted by the incredible Matt Hansen; he is a Breyer Silver, painted up in the traditional woodgrain style, to mimic the old Fighting Stallion from the 60's. Matt painted him in 2001; and I acquired him from his room at Breyerfest that year. Honestly one of my favorite 'fakes', this guy always leaves judges questioning his realism, and drooling over his attention to detail.
I'm often asked if I would consider selling this piece... and my answer is a lifetime of "No". My love and appreciation for my vintage Breyer collection, keeps him here with the oldies; for nostalgic reasons. |
"Regulus 2007" "Reggie", as we call him at home, is a stunning "El Cid" Andalusian resin, painted by none other than the fantastic Stephanie Michaud, to a gorgeous mulberry dappled grey. One of her older works, she painted him by hand with oils; a technique used only by the most talented among the artists; and something she excels in. "Reggie" has taken home his fair share of awards in the ring; earning a stack of NAN cards, and always playing a prevalent role in my Spanish show string. Now, he's mostly retired, but has a special spot in my curio cabinet, where I can admire his beauty, on a daily basis.
The infamous "L.J.J." "Laurie", is a Peter Stone Arabian, that was a multi-person collaboration. Resculpted and detailed by Stephanie May, then painted into a stunning dappled rose grey, by the incomparable Myla Pearce. She won a slew of awards in both halter and in "hollywood costume" with her one-of-a-kind, custom regalia by Heather Downing. This mare, a 2001 model, has earned more rosettes than most of my OF string horses, and was still dazzling the judges and exhibitors alike, until I officially retired her from competition in 2012.

"Evita" This mare never ceases to amaze me. Resculpted and painted by the incredible Cindy Evans; this former Breyer Clydesdale Mare, has been redone to a lovely dark mahogany bay Shire mare; with the kindest face i've ever seen. She's always placed well in the ribbons, earning a NAN card or two when i've shown her. Her endearing expression catches the eye of judges, and is usually accompanied by a feeling of awe. She was created in 2004, and still looks as new as the day Cindy completed her.
